Ssgt Fred Richard Schultz, US Air Force, Korean War Veteran, Patriot Guard Rider - Susanville, CA

On a beautiful sunny day in Lassen County, a total of 54 Patriot Guard Members came from far and wide with 37 motorcycles & countless cages to show their honors and respect to Korean War veteran and fellow PGR member, USAF SSgt. Fred Richard Schultz at his interment services at Diamond Crest Cemetery.

SSgt. Schultz proudly served his country from 1950 thru 1954 as a Flight Engineer on the B-36 "Peacemakers" as a member of the 326th Bombing Squadron, which included missions over North Korea and Russia while assigned to the Strategic Air Command. These missions were flown in very unstable times and therefore had nuclear capabilities.

Upon his return to civilian life, Mr. Schultz was involved with the infamous "Hanford Project", worked for Aerojet on solid fuel rockets, and was an inspector for nuclear missile silos. Flying was definitely in his blood, starting at the tender age of 14, he earned his pilot's license at age 16 and later his commercial license. He flew crop dusters and was also a "bush pilot" in Alaska for a time. In his later years, Mr. Schultz became a proud member and attended missions with the Susanville CA. Patriot Guard Riders. Mr. Schultz was born on July 15, 1931 in Benton, Illinois and passed on June 27, 2013 in Susanville, CA.

Mr. Schultz was proudly transported to his final resting place aboard his own Harley Trike by his grandsons with Patriot Guard escort, who passed thru the dual PGR flag lines assembled in his honor.

Helping to make this mission memorable to family and friends, this partial list of organizations & individuals have our sincere thanks:

Susanville area Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion;
Marine Corps League Color Guard;
Beal Air Force Base Honor Guard;
Assistant PGR State Captain Jack Morris and PGR member Terry Kelly for assembling the flag lines;
former Lassen County VSO Larry Rogers;
PGR members Ray Nadeau and Blake Hutchinson for their photographic expertise.

Dedicated PGR members from all over the Northern California & Northern Nevada areas including:

Susanville,
Alturas,
Janesville,
Westwood,
Chester,
Burney,
Reno,
Carson City,
Truckee,
Winnemucca,

Lastly, we would like to thank United States Air Force Staff Sgt. Fred Richard Schultz for outstanding service to his country during a period of turmoil often forgotten by the history books of today.

Because of his dedication and love of country, family & friends and his sense of humor, he will be missed by many.

We salute you sir! Rest in peace, for your final mission is complete.

Respectfully,
RC: Skip "Boonierider" Kelly
